Prayer for Social Justice

God, our Creator with sincerity we pray to you, in great humility and heartfelt sorrow for all the trauma our indigenous family have experienced at the hands of a misguided Church.

We recognize and acknowledge that both the abuse of Holy Scriptures and misplaced motives of the Church and government were wrongly applied to assimilate the Aboriginal people. This movement towards forcing people to adopt the attitudes and values of other people is colonizing and dehumanizing. It was and is very wrong.

We ask forgiveness for the irreparable damage the residential school system has caused generationally. These destructive years have left scars that run deep, and the decades of trauma have left hearts that have not healed. We see firsthand the broken and crippled family units of the family of our First Nation, who daily witness their loss of cultural identity and erosion of a secure sense of self. 

We are not oblivious to the ongoing systemic oppression that remains today, but there is hope. You have told your story authentically, we believe you. God, our Creator Your Word reminds us that you are close to the brokenhearted and you desire to heal, we ask you to bring healing into the lives of our indigenous family.

heal the fragmented souls, 

heal the shattered families, 

heal the cultural brokenness. 

May the people of this vast nation Canada unite in praying for healing, forgiveness and be inspired to make amends every moment of everyday O, Creator, we pray always in the name of your Holy Son - Jesus Christ.
